On the day of our trip, the morning started out cold with temps in the 20’s. It was overcast with a heavy frost. My newly-adopted kids from Colombia looked out the window in wonder at the fields encased in white. The weather report said it would be in the 40’s and sunny by late morning, but that seemed unlikely as I stood in the driveway shivering as I sent the kids off to school. With the cold-weather essentials all packed (see our winter fishing tips post), Matt and I headed out on the easy, if not long 2 hour drive to our favorite North East Iowa creek. We made fast time to Iowa, only to be turned back 5 minutes from the pull off by a bridge that was out. We navigated some gravel back-roads and made it to our preferred spot about 20 minutes later. When we hopped out of the truck, the sun was shining on our faces and there was a sense of the air warming.
